Originating in Byron Bay in 2017, the brand has quickly become a beachside favorite and expanded to Noosa, Burleigh Heads, and Newcastle, with each location having its own distinctive decor, exclusive dishes, and brand personality reflective of its surroundings. The restaurant is known for its bold, colourful, and flavourful food, and great team culture. We are currently seeking a Prep Chef to join our talented kitchen team.
POSITION SUMMARY
A Prep Chef at Light Years Asian Diner plays a key role in ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly by preparing ingredients to the highest standard. Working behind the scenes, you’ll be responsible for prepping and organising the ingredients for all menu items, ensuring consistency and quality across all dishes. You’ll work closely with the kitchen team, supporting the chefs in their roles, maintaining an efficient and organised prep station, and adhering to our hygiene and food safety standards. This position requires a passion for fresh, high-quality food and a strong understanding of kitchen operations.
ABOUT YOU
- Solid communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment (essential).
- A positive attitude, with a focus on supporting your fellow team members.
- Experience with Asian ingredients is a plus, but not essential.
- Reliability and punctuality are key for this role.
- Ability to prep ingredients efficiently, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Familiar with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- A genuine interest in developing your skills in a creative kitchen environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Kitchen Standards – Maintain company standards of quality, service, presentation, and cleanliness during food prep and ingredient storage.
- Preparation & Organisation – Ensure ingredients are prepped in advance and stored correctly, ensuring the kitchen has everything it needs to meet the service requirements.
- Team Support – Work closely with the kitchen team, ensuring they have the right ingredients ready for the line during service, and assist with general kitchen duties when required.
- Food Safety – Follow all food safety guidelines, ensuring food is stored, handled, and prepared according to Light Years’ high standards.
- Consistency & Quality – Ensure all prep is done according to recipes and specifications to maintain consistency across all dishes.
- Inventory Management – Assist with stock rotation and monitor ingredient levels to ensure smooth operation throughout service.
